A lot of things have cropped up these weeks. The month of January was filled with proposals for PBL Symposium, tying up Open House event, trying my best to accumulate all the CE points, my belated 18th birthday, trying to come up with my own blog code and many more. In a jiffy, January has ended and now we’re in the middle of February. Really, how time “flies”. Day by day, class is getting less attendance and we all know the reason.

The holidays are just around the corner; tomorrow in fact. The class is disintegrating and we are going different directions. Thinking back old times, I’m grateful to know W25J. The different people I met make my life more interesting. The fact is, meeting new people keeps me alive. Ever wonder if you only have a set of friends? Won’t that be boring? Just imagine, Aidi is always there when you are in need of a friend? Isn’t that great? Lolx.

These two paragraphs is dedicated to my dear class W25J. Rewinding back to the second day of class (I didn’t come for the first day of school; Poly Forum commitment) I was known as the “facilitator” A person who came to class at 8.30am on the dot wearing white RP polo t-shirt and lanyard. To top it off, I was wearing a green lanyard. Seems familiar? I was there at the door, head peaking in and I asked, “Is this W25J?” The response? “Yea” That’s all. These are the people who I grown to know very well.

Working as a team in this class without bickering is a first for me. In W25J, the atmosphere and surrounding is the perfect place to learn, the good and the bad. The Outings for the class is a memorable one for me. We went to the zoo, feed the kangaroos, “talking to the lions”, Siloso beach day and many others. We were a bunch of crazy students showing our humorous antics. We are already given the title young adults, but sometimes the child in us takes over our body; especially for me. I love to mix and mingle with them, and I thank them for making me part of the family.

Lastly, I’m here to wish all of you best of luck for year 2 and happy working for those who are earning money during the holidays. Do keep in touch and mix and mingle as we always do. I have just one request,

“REMEMBER ME ALWAYS! AIDI WHO LOVES TO MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH”

Regards,

Aidi Sabari

SIT – DBA

W25J

Ps: I love you all !!!!!!

2nd person charge; Wi-fi “mooching” to make “Bomb hoax”

I was reading the newspaper today and read that a 2nd person has been charged. He was alleged of using his neighbor’s unsecured wireless network to post a “bomb hoax” online. Last year, it was a 17 years old Polytechnic student who was caught. It created a buzz among the enthusiasts in IT and Newspaper forum. I read with amusement about these entries.

If I can remember correctly, there were many entries raising doubts and applauding the Government’s effort to tackle the problem. A person shared his views. I sum up his post as follows,

“An unsecured wireless network can be compared as a house without closing their doors. The owner has the responsibility to safeguard their own house for an obvious reason; preventing break-ins. If their house is broken in, it's the owner’s fault.”

The others who approved the Government actions gave interesting response. A person talked about being “barred from his own network”

“He was a lazy person who didn’t care about securing his wireless network. As days gone by, he noticed that his computer access to the internet got slower as his bandwidth was used up by unauthorized people. He was shocked to find his own network “secured” after weeks gone by. He was puzzled as who had the authority to change his password. “

Another person talked about “common sense”

“No matter how a house is locked or not, it’s “common sense” that walking in a strangers house without their consent is consider breaking in. This people who enter houses can either be good or bad guys. A good guy may do no harm to the house but imagine what the bad guy can do. He can steal all the valuables without anybody knowing. In putting context of a wireless network, a person can download music illegally, download pornography, and hack into another persons’ website and many more.”

His entry actually came into a reality with today’s news. It seems that a guy has entered an unsecured wireless network and posted a bomb hoax in popular IT forum site; hardwarezone.com. Forum goers reported the incident to the police and police conducted their search. The first thing that they did was confiscating the person who gave the free network; not the culprit. It was after thorough investigation then he was nabbed and charged.

I guess I have understood the reason behind charges against wi-fi “mooching”. However, I still have doubts on one part; a person can be charged to a minimum of 3 years jail. I read from an interesting political cartoon which mentioned this;

2 people were talking to each other talking about the mooching buzz. One mentioned about the difference of jail time spent of cat killer and wi-fi mooching person. “Cat killer spent 1 year’s jail while mooching person spent 3 years jail. Which action do you think is much more severe? Killing cats or free surfing? Then the second person mentioned, “It’s the ga-ber-ment law lor.”

Solution to your ear problem

Do you have that bad habit of sticking your pinky finger in your ear? We had to endure for almost 5 years for a new OS to replace Windows XP. Adding to that, the current Office 2003 will be replaced by Office 2007 with its new friendly GUI (Graphical User Interface) idea.

There are some bright students out there who had painstakingly devised a “pack” for Windows XP users to have a “feel” of Windows Vista in their PC or laptops. They had changed the GUI to a feel that is very close to the new OS. It’s amazing what these people can do!

VTP (Vista Transformation Pack) 6.0. That’s what these students have come up with. If you’d like a feel of Vista, you can download it here

I've downloaded an older version VTP 5.5 and I must say that I'm impressed with the work these people did. The Start, Log off, shutdown and many more other icons are changed.

Precaution: Download with care as this “pack” is not supported by Windows personal or have got anything to do with them. It’s called “Adblock Plus”. A pretty handy tool if you hate those advertisements that keeps popping out everywhere in a page. It seems that every ad will blink and glitter using those nifty Flash software. It gives you a headache sometimes don’t you agree? Ever wonder how you could block all those nonsense?

Now there’s a way to block them! This “Adblock Plus” add-on tool will rid all of it without any extra cost! That’s not all! With all of these gone, your page will load faster than before; how wonderful is that?

We have to thank Firefox and the creator of this awesome add-on tool for their stupendous creation. It’s a tutorial turning normal scenic/overhead pictures into a model/toy-like picture.

Enough said. In the morning, I’m supposedly having a badminton game with Sebastian and the others. After lunch, I had a Java workshop to try and complete my CE points. Later at night, I’m going out cycling with a friend of mine around my neighborhood park; just to take a breather of fresh air.

In these events, 2 out 3 of it had to be cancelled. I had a miscommunication with Xueli about the timing for badminton. The time was pushed to 1pm instead of 11am. I couldn’t make it due to the workshop that I had to attend. The organizer, Sebastian pulled out of the game because he had other plans. He did that without telling me earlier. Sebastian! Luckily I didn’t go out of the house in the early morning. If not, I’ll be rotting for the time to pass me by.

After a quick grab of lunch, I went for the Java workshop. It was quite ok due to the fact that I had Sky by my side to help me. The IG helpers were there, but some of them don’t even know how to troubleshoot. It was also quite boring where you sit there and stare at codings and them telling you to “copy and paste”. It pissed me off. Then why you called this event a “workshop” I thought I’m supposed to learn something; but through “copy and paste” method? Well, maybe that’s how things work there. I guess I’m wrong to put them down. Bad Aidi.

In between lesson, I received a message from Glenn. I misread the message and I thought it was a joke. I thought he told me this; “I’m now in hospital” It made me think; so what? I read again and it read, “I’m hospitalized, Tan Tock Seng Hospital” I was taken aback a little. He had some injury to his brain. Oh my, it must be serious.

My night outing had to be cancelled as George and I decided to give Glenn a visit. Hey I shall tell you this, patients like him are bored, and we were there to make him feel happy. We took the MRT to Novena and headed to the hospital. We went inside the ward and before we could find Glenn; he found us! He waved at us frantically. We chatted for awhile before leaving the bed for awhile. Glenn had to take his “jab” This particular jab wasn’t an ordinary jab. He told me that it was a very long needle, poked at his spinal cord! Oh my! Imagine that being poked at you! Ironically after that “jab” he was back to normal! Laughing out loud as if nothing happened!

George and I left at about 7pm and we wished him to get well soon. We then headed to <st1:street st="on"><st1:address st="on">Novena Square</st1:address></st1:street> and walked around for awhile before having our dinner. The both of us ended up in a fast food restaurant. We left for the MRT station after that and parted ways with each of us taking different train routes.

  I had an exciting day!

The past 5 days!

The start of holidays was what I wanted. There’s no more waking up early nor missing that double Decker bus. Sleeping early is no more in my daily timetable too. This is a luxury that I must treasure for a month. There are so many things to do and lots of time to finish!

What a better way to start my holidays by having diarrhea! Yay! It’s Wednesday morning and I’ve already felt this “tingling” sensation in my stomach. A funny feeling that I knew wasn’t normal. Frequent “visits” to the toilet was my timely routine. It made me weak and I spent the whole day watching Starhub cable tv! It’s not the way I expected my first day of holidays to work out. At least I spent my day watching “Discovery, National Geographic, Animal Planet and etc” channels. Hey! At least I’m watching some educational television here! And of course, Nickelodean and Cartoon Networks included.

In the next day, I felt a little bit better. The “visits” drastically reduced. My bowels are emptied and I felt hungry all day long. I gobbled up all the available food in the house. In between meals, I had runny nose. Throughout my life, sneezing almost everyday is part and parcel of my life. I thought nothing of it; until the next day.

I woke up early in the morning to find myself sneezing non-stop. My head felt heavy and my nose was red. I used up all the tissues that was in the house! Again, I felt weak and I spent the day watching TV and did some room cleaning. It just made things worst. I sneezed all day long.

My weekends didn’t look bright. After my sneezing period died down, I felt hot all over my body. My eyes were bloody red and felt as if it’s going to “pop-out” The days were spent trying to get to sleep or either thinking of something light to do. Sitting in front of my computer just makes my eyes watery.

There goes my 5 days of holidays! The Sickness that wasn’t in my control. Things that I wanted to do have to be abandoned. I guess, my body just wants to purge out all the toxics inside! Hey, that’s not bad after all!

Dear Mr. Monday, I hope it’s going to be a great day for me tomorrow! There were a few places in mind to choose from but they stick to their decision. All of the classmates were invited, but some of them had other plans. We had our feast yesterday; it was awesome!
Coincidentally, there was an event in National Library Board (NLB) at Bugis area yesterday. I was there with 8 other girls to show our support for RP students! They showcased their international items at the event. I think the event was called “World On Wheels” They sold items such as Japanese Anime stuff toys, olden Chinese umbrella, malay congkak and many more! We saw Jordan’s “humongous” poster. He makes me jealous; I want a huge poster for myself too! Our dearest friends Yun Yann and Jingying were there and we gave our best moral support for them!

Tired of walking around the push carts, we then set off to have something to drink. We end up in a “posh” kopitiam. We ordered dessert and gobbled them up fast before we even notice! Winnie, Samantha and I got “high” after eating 3 different desserts! We couldn’t stop laughing and sometimes choked on the desserts. Oh yes before I forget, I’m sorry Amabel for finishing your dessert! That “Rainbow Ice” was irresistible!

Right after that, I followed the girls for some picture taking! We went to this shop where there are a lot of machines for you to go in and be pretty! As always, I like trying different kinds of things and I followed suit with them and did some “cute” poses!

It was already late afternoon by then and we rushed off to meet Wang Zhao. We ended up being early at the MRT station and waited for the others to come. There were about 9 of us and we walked to the eating place. It wasn’t the case though; there was a van specially “catered” for us.

We ordered food and had a jolly good time! We ate as if there’s no tomorrow! After the food, we ended up teasing Joo Tze and Winnie. It was fun poking fun at them. Hey, no hard feelings ok guys? It’s good plain entertainment.
Lastly, we played pool to finish up our day. Incidentally, I met Glenn and Wilson who were there also! I caught up with them and we chat as if we have never met. After the game, we decided to walk back to the MRT station. I thought it was a short walk, but it took us more than 30 minutes! We ended up singing, talking crap and beat boxing! I’m the best at that one!

SLC Amazing Race 2006

My team participated in this event and we called ourselves “Avalon” The team consists of Louis (Team captain), Xue Li, Joo Tze, Nisha, Rui Yan and I. JT and I showed the true Singaporean Kiasu Syndrome. We had an extra shirt to compliment the ones already given! Also, we took extra bread for “ammunition” for the stomach. Evil.
The first clue given was to go to Kembangan! A perfect 22 stops away! After that, we went to Toa Payoh and got lost. We did a lot of running there and got scolded by a bank staff! We didn’t know that we were running in a bank! It felt funny! I’m sorry Mr. Bank Officer!

The next stop was my favorite stop. We had to go to “Bedok MRT station”. That place is my home ground! I showed the team around the place; especially Louis. I showed him where I stayed. I think I got a bit excited as I made him run fast with me! Sorry Louis!

The event made us run a lot! We took the MRT to get to all of our destinations. Amazingly, in every train that we were in, we sat on the floor and slept like logs! It was our own makeshift pit stop! It was a place to rejuvenate ourselves. We found the best place to sit; the ends of the train.

In one of the train rides, I was told by my teammates that some “Ah Beng” gang wanted to take a picture of me! I’m famous! Yes! Take a picture of me! Well, not really! I was seated on the floor sleeping peacefully. However, the sleeping position I was in must have caught their attention! I slept awkwardly I guess. Haha.

Well that’s the highlight of the event! Now, Let’s see where the team went!

RP --> Woodlands -->  Kembangan -->  Toa Payoh -->  Bedok -->  Yishun -->  Chinatown -->  Dhoby Ghaut

We finished the game at 4.30pm and waited for our dinner while the SLC members tabulate the scores. Results were out around 7pm. Out of the 35 teams that participated, we got the 7th position! That means we won a prize! It was a morale booster for the team! Our efforts did not go to waste! Republic Polytechnic’s annual Ultimate Challenge has come once again! It's freezing cold! brr~. Other than that, the team participated in various events such as judo, aikido, bowling, foosball. archery, badminton and many more! If i'm not wrong, my team collected the 2nd highest point for........ NETBALL!! woot~

After the event, the tired and hungry friends ventured out to KFC to gain the "fats" back that we have lost. A pretty quiet place with nice surroundings. I met up with Audrey in Kovan MRT station to get to the place together.

George , James, Audrey, Carinn, Zaki and I were there in the Church to witness the event. It was a first for me. It was an eye opener for me. The event started with some singing and prayers and ended with vows from the newlyweds.

We then had a small reception. The girls took some pictures for momento and the guys "squeeze" in to join. After that, we went to Vivo City as I had never been there before. A huge place with an outdoor place for us to chill.

1. My advisor with his bride!
2. The boys...
3. Carinn.. with the boys
4. Literature gives the writer a way to express his anguish, despair, anger and others too. What other ways are better other than Symbols! Symbols give the writer more freedom of expression without being constricted. It helps to describe their feelings through this mean.

Let me share with you a poem that my team found in the internet that expresses feeling of "Friendship"

Shooting star by Rose

You are a shooting star in the midnight sky
The glimmer of the whole sky, but only for a moment

You dream, you think, you wait for the right time, then you,
A single star, go into the night sky for the world to see

As you travel across the sky, you leave the hint of your presence behind
You are the shooting star in the eyes of the world

A funnier piece...

Pee by unknown (got it from www.deviantart.com)

Friendship is like peeing in your pants
Everyone else can see it
But you're the only one
That can feel the truth

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pulled to the DOTA world

Sebastian gave the me the disc to install the Warcraft game. Not bad for a noob like me. I can play the game quite well and I notice that when i play it, i'm very noisy. This is ontop of every "wordy" text definitions and thick books that I got from the library. It seems that I can't really apply what the books say to the problem statement for the day. Hmm.. I wonder why.

So my concept is...

"Demand meets supplier, consumer high demand means high supplier and vice versa.

There wil be a problem comes out when small parts of the chain thinks the demand always goes "UP" when in actually fact it's actually backlog; inventory items that are not yet successfully given to the consumers.  This means;

New demand + Old demand (backlog) = Total order a company needs to comply with

Then comes Domino Effect and worst Bullwhip Effect.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other than that, I can't wait for this coming Friday and Saturday! why!?

Friday - RP ultimate challenge 2006
- The "Avangarde"
- Louis, Aidi, Wang Zhao and JT

Saturday - My dad's and 1st brother birthday
- Dad's 63 years old this weekend!
- he's "belanja-ing" us
- free food!!!

Woot~

math module and course briefing

Since the start of the new semester, I rarely missed math module. Day by day, I've started to dislike science module. This was a complete reverse from semester 1. I thought I liked science lessons very much. I think I'm going to suffer next semester.

Push that topic aside; and today's topic is on exponential curve. Getting the answer is damn freaking easy. However, going through the process is tedious sh**. For example"You take a calculator, press the 2nd function andpress the button ex and key in a number that you like and.... wallah! you get the answer."

That easy.

Also in the day, I went for a course briefing for DBA. Of all who attended the briefing, I was the only one from SAS and the programme chair gave alot of attention at me. It will be big leap for me. A science student to a IT/business student.

will my course transfer be accepted? yes? no?

we'll see in the next coming weeks.

With that, I pray to god to lead me to the correct path. How time really flies past. I tried my best to be accustomed to the class culture. I had to throw away the feelings of sentimental value of my previous class. How sad.

I have been getting positive comments from all my facilitators so far. This doesn’t mean A’s for my daily grade though. This ranged from good presentation skills, being positively loud, good leadership skills and being active in group discussions.

Hold your thoughts there. I’m not trying to brag here. This is all thanks to my previous class effort to bring PBL for good reasons. I had classmates who pushed each other to perform well. We discussed until we got fed-up with each other. My ex-class only ends after 4pm due to the fact that we asked too many questions. It’s hard to believe right?

Well, no more sentimental thoughts of previous class. The positive comments have made me strive to do better in my new class. In W25J, the discussion level is dangerously low. I’ve been praised for my leadership skills. With this, I hope to do my best to defend my team’s presentation well with common sense and well thought answers.

Haha.

My new class: W25J

I attended my first lesson of the second semester in a new class. A totally new environment meeting new friends. I knew culture shock was abound to happen due to the pre-warnings given by my facilitators. 8.40am and I went into class.

The first thing that I did when I came into class was not to say "hi!" to everybody but to check whether I was in the correct class. I wouldn't want to be in the wrong class and feel "paise", lolx. I think my new classmates thought that I'm a faciliator! Since I was wearing an RP t-shirt and a lanyard. haha....

Then I realised that my new class has alot of girls! Amazed me quite a little. It's been male majority in my last class. I used to have only about 6-7 girls only and now it's a major boost with about 10-12 girls. Amazing! Unluckily no malay girls. So sad. lolx.

I was in group 4 with Sebastian, Rui Yan, JingYing and Leandra. A bunch of nice people. We had a math module today. The lesson was alright, not that hard nor easy. It was quite strange for me to present at the back of the class since I have been presenting infront of the class for the whole first semester no matter how hard i have to go back and forth to click on the mouse. Nobody was allowed to click unless yourself. It's true. Nyahaha...

Being in a new environment teaches me to be adaptable. Suiting to the class environment takes time. Gelling with each other member takes hard effort to break the ice.

That's all for now. :)

i'm oblivious

After graduating from my secondary school, i've been quite oblivious to many of my secondary schoolmates (those from the same batch and some juniors). It's quite sad actually. I've known quite alot of them (not really that close but still... they are my friends) Am I a ghost or what? haha..

Recently I went to Downtown East to watch a malay concert at D'marqee (is that the correct spelling? lolx). I went with my parents and as usual it's crowded with people strolling around with some babies in tow and bla bla bla...

While walking to the "big tent" i saw two of my friends walking towards my direction. One was of the same age as me while the other is my year younger student council friend. SO that means she will NOTICE me. I'm her senior, lolx. I gave them a big "Aidi Smile" and a right hand wave and what do I get? A big "muke sotong" reaction! haha... haiya what to do?

Another event took at "Popular" bookstore where I saw a junior browsing through the books. I gave another "Aidi Smile". So what do I get? An irk face from him! waahh... I'm NOT trying to flirt with you la boboi! Just to say hi in a smiling way. Wah, the reaction..... I just feel like punching the face.

I'm not trying to blame these people here for not replying graciously to my heartwarming acknowledgement that I know a person near me is not a GHOST nor a STRANGER but a friend of mine. Of course, if you are a stranger I won't even lift those precious mouth muscles! lolx.

Am I wrong to say this? maybe. Maybe not. Maybe some people will only reply back if you pester in their face? or maybe some people just can't be bothered?

It's all SUBJECTIVE to individual preferences.

upcoming Poly Forum 2006

I've got hold of the blazers and yeah it feels GOOD to be wearing it. I feel like an "VVIP" in the black blazer. It makes me look smart too. I took the blazers, a tie, tiepin and a badge. The tie was big, bigger than my secondary school's tie.

Just because I'm wearing the blazer, I went to shop for a white collared shirt and a leather shoe. I've never had long sleeve shirt in my closet and this was the first. The "pioneer" shirt for the years to come. Nyehehe... The shoes, hmmm.... very cool looking. It has these squared front cut and it is a heel shoe. It feels kind of weird to be wearing heels, not that kind of ladies heels but still.... I can feel the "levitation" wearing it. haha... The shoes are already "seasoned" after the long and winding walk around town with George and Eunice yesterday. Yep, it's true.

Hmm.. poly forum. Sub theme 4.1. I shall congratulate my team for finishing their project earlier than other groups. And oh yeah, their skit is awesome, by looking at the pictures of children smiling away. And yeah George, you look YOUNG there even though you're not. Michelle (if the name's correct, she's the same age as you) and you were awesome! holla!

Few more days to Poly Forum and after that my worries are OVER. It's a four day event and RP students will miss the opening day of semester 2! uwahahaha!! miss school... miss school... yahoo!!

I'm still wondering who are my classmates and when the RP admin staff going to tell me which class I'm in? Very nervous. I don't want a class that is anti-social, blacksheeps, backstabbers and others. No offence George! Today we had a seminar talk by some Life Sciences professors and it was held in NLB. For the record, Yes George! this is my first time going to NLB! woot! haha... and yeah, it's been a long time since I went to Bugis. You know the Bugis Junction and all that stuff.

We attended the hour long talk getting "enlightened" for various ways a science diploma holders to further their studies. There were professors from NUS, NTU and CQU (Central Queensland University) giving their take on degree courses.

After that we went to "jalan-jalan" to an adjacent building to go to a music shop "Swee Lee Ptd Ltd" I wanted to have a look at the guitars. As usual, the price range were hitting the top, with one reaching over $2,000! Then we went to look at 2nd hand book stores while waiting for Eunice to join us for lunch at Bras Basah.

So, from Bugis the 3 of us went to Bras Basah to have our lunch. It was a LONG walk! While walking, our "tourist guide" show us the good food makan places we should go and all the fun places we missed. It was a "historically enriching experience" to look around Singapore. The moment I was there, I ate my food so fast I finished first!

We were then led to the upper level shops where George showed me all the Army stuff that I need to know where to get from. When we finished, Eunice was still shopping for her clothes. LoL... No offence.. hehe....

After that was the most treacherous walk i've ever walked. Walking from Bras Basah to Somerset! ahh!! I was wearing a leather shoe and it gave my heels a real work out today. I'm having leg cramps and numbness. Oh yeah, the feeling of pain is "awesome" nyehhee...

Watched a movie titled "spelling bee" or something like that with the inclusion of James. The show was quite good, with every "frame" of that movie had someone spelling some "bombarstic" words you would never use in your entire life. For example, "Solartreacherous" I think the meaning is "sun hill' or something like that. But WTH normal people would actually use in daily life!! Why make your life so difficult? haha... It was really interesting, it made us spell words even after watching the movie! For example, George said this, "I'm going to the t-o-i-l-e-t" nyeahhaaha.....

We then had our dinner and chit chat for quite some time. We set off home at about 8pm in the evening.

Now, I know how a lady feels wearing a heel shoes. Even though men heels are not as high as theirs, I can feel the slight pain. I'm not used to wearing leather heel shoes you see. Uwahaha! Strong man cannot complain! haiyo.. ok, no pain now... but still.............

wakao, Where's my tiger balm? I need it!!!

Lost in the urban jungle

Sunday is not my day. It almost made me to blurt out vulgarities because of these external factors i will share with you people. My club had an outreach teaching PBL to the community. Of all days, SUNDAY was chosen! ARgh! So many things happen today! wakao! The "stress" that i had was unbearable.

I woke up at 5.15am to get ready for school. YES!! 5.15am for school! My club had arranged for a bus ride that will be arriving at 7.20am. SO i had to prepare early just in case I miss the public bus. After all, I live in the East Coast GRC and i had to travel up north. This would take me 1 hour to go to school. Yes, A SOLID 1 HOUR from Bedok Interchange to Woodlands Interchange.

After i've changed and all, I waited for the bus near my house at about 5.45am. Listening to my favourite Radio channel while patiently waiting for the bus. But this F***ing bus didn't come for a solid 1/2 hour! It pissed me off EARLY IN THE MORNING! I had no choice but to go to the community place straight by taking the MRT. It was a long painful butt journey.

I took the MRT and unluckily arrived at Tiong Bahru MRT Station early that i expected. Damn, it's only 7.30am and the event starts at only 8.30am! Argh! Luckily there's a Newpaper to read and burn time.

I board a bus at about 8am to reach the place. HOWEVER, I didn't! Instead of reaching the place, the bus when to City Hall, you know the St Andrew Cathedral Church? wakao! I took the correct bus BUT wrong direction!! ARGH!!!! I even saw Army people running all sweaty and i don't know why. I totally went off course!

I had no choice but to take MRT from City Hall back to Tiong Bahru. Another bad thing happened, I had a stomachache! you know, tapien? (if my spelling is correct) Wakao, I cannot tahan the "feel" man! This thing all happen at about 8.20am and i'm trying to rush myself to the place!

However I did reached at the end. Hey, happy ending. But, in the event that my club attended we had to teach PBL to the students and it was quite hard to break the "strangers-friend" ceiling as everybody was shy (not me of course, lolx) Um, the event went smoothly and the students grasp what we teached.

That was what we came to achieve. By then, a lesson learnt. When you don't know of a place, ask the bus driver the place! don't be shy or try to act cool! You might end up in some urban jungle and meet sweaty Army people who you don't even want to get close to!!

Lastly, here are some pictures from the event.

jogging!

Jogging is a good way of exercising. You will feel good after the strenuous workout. It makes you treasure free air that you breath in and out. Verbally saying that I want to jog is far-fetched from doing it in real. After all I said this to George, “can I join you in the 21km run?” Hmm… I regret saying that. I wonder why I asked to be part of running for a charity event. Can I event complete that?

Today, I went jogging with George. The difference between him and myself is that he‘s fit; I‘m not. Haha. We ran a distance of about 4km around the school. When we started, we ran side by side. We started slow and jogged to a faster pace later. Having not jogged for a very long time, I thought I could finish the jog without any hiccups.

Then the worst thing happen. I lost my breath halfway through. I can’t keep up with George who seems so cool and not out of breath. I stopped halfway, hands on my knees. CANNOT TAHAN!

Then George asked me to jog slowly instead. I wonder how he could jog and talk at the same time. I don’t see him puffing for air whereas I was gasping for air. My windpipe felt closed and my lips was super dry.

He persuaded me to jog all the way without stopping. And…. I did! It was an accomplishment for me! I have to thank George for giving me the motivation to jog. Thanks George!

kena kick out of Battle Of The Bands!

First let me start with my bands failure to get into the semi-finals. Argh. The quarter finals was last Saturday. We had our 1st band practise together! (it has always been 4/5 of attendance!) wahuu.

We practised in this jamming room dunno somewhere in peninsula. The thing that gave me the jittery feeling was that we were the first band up to perform. Hmm. We had some sound checks before we performed. Hmm. I think my lead singer felt nervous that day, her singing couldn't keep up with the song. But nvm! we all can improve!

After we performed, we got an almost cold reply. This is what he said, "i love your song but there are areas for improvement"

well... nvm.....

Battle of the Bands

I just feel that it's just too soon!! argh... We got through the auditions (which was last Saturday) and the quarter-finals is just around the corner! We have to play 2 songs and my group proposed playing Helena from MCR and Swamped from Lacuna Coil. I shall warn you first. Don't ask me anything about that group. I don't know much of them! I just..... go with the group. Wahoo.

On Saturday, I have to attend this FYP colloquium (excuse me if the spelling is wrong) organized by the school. It's from 8am-1pm. Then later, I have to run to have a last run of jamming practice at dunno what time. The quarter finals starts at 4pm.

You know they say the event will start at 4pm but actually it starts at 5pm plus. Then to make it worst there are about 30 bands competing. It will be a long wait for our turn. By then, I shall buy some twisties snacks and a coke bottled drink. (The competition is held in a pub and I can't and don't want to drink liquor)

What do you expect? Aidi to drink beer? No right? Haha… Aidi is just too good and lovable to drink it. LOL.

For now, Aidi! Go go go! Practice and practice more!! And yeah, buy a new guitar string! Your “G-string” is broken. Ok, it sounds wrong, but that’s the name of the GUITAR string. It’s just a coincidence.

NDP06 preview

It's been a long time since my last entry into the National Stadium two years ago. Back then, I was with my school's military band performing in SYF 04 opening ceremony. I was an EXTRA playing the instrument; trombone. In that 3-4 months of training, my skin turned somewhat "chaota" due to the very hot temperatures when we trained. The feeling of stepping on that green grass in the National Stadium was AWESOME.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to be in it again. Not to perform but to watch the preview of NDP06. James' friend had extra tickets. He asked Muhammad and I to tag along with him to the stadium.

We were seated in the north stand and our view were unblocked. We saw Electrico playing their new song live on the stage to entertain us. Seated in a row, we try to contain our hunger; there were no food provided. sad. There was something new though. The Air Force showed their new "toy" in their family; the APACHE attack helicopter. It "buzz" through the stadium giving an "oomph" feeling to the parade.

That's all though. You see, A friend of mine send me an email that was an "eye opener". In this world where there is a debate on transexual and stuff, what about animals?

These few pics that I'm gonna share with you may disgust or make you laugh until you puke blood. This involves some animals that you've seen before as a child.

looking at them, it makes me think why god made us in such a way we are now HUMAN BEINGS. There's 1 head, 2 eyes, 1 nose, 1 mouth and etc. There must be a reason. I can still remember my physics teacher who shared with the class; "God does not make ANY mistake when we are created. Be it that you are born normal or special, there are hurdles for you to tackle. No difference.

It also applies to those who feel they are neither here nor there. It was great to meet my old friends and see how they are doing. I missed all my "kakis" and clicks. All of them have changed! I didn't though.. hehe

I admit I've been to Pasir Ris Park countless time. However, I still couldn't find my way to find the pit! I alighted at the wrong bus stop and I had to walk about 400m to reach the place. pss.. It was a walk from one end of the beach park to the other...

I met Takir, Syahiid, Welin, Eugene, Siva and many more! Derek had a long and dyed hair! goodness! the "goody" boy of the class has turned bad. Haha... it was a mini shock to me. We hugged each other! haha... We felt gay... you know as in the expression for happy? Ok never mind…

We looked at the seas as we remind ourselves of the fun and struggles we had as a class. The concentration when studying and the vulgarities that we hurled at each other. Wah… the vulgarities was the best.. We had a great laugh.

Returned home with Zul, Mariam and Katt. I reached home at about 11pm. My class sickness was cured. I didn’t meet some classmates though. Darren, Cerlyn, Kaiwen and some others didn’t come. I want to meet you guys! How are ya people? Do you all miss aidi? i know you do!! haha...

aidi, Takir, Syahiid

aidi and Shanas

smile for the camera!!

GeTtiNg oN mY nErVeS iS a BiG No! nO!!

I'm in a foul mood this morning. I call today's lesson "rojak science feat math." I had to join a new team as 2 of my teammates "backstab" Yasmin and I. They are absent from school! I joined the "all straight males club" right in the center of the class.

Solving today's problem needs the use of microsoft excel. My burden was shared with George who knew how to use excel well. We exchanged ideas, yeah you know.. the usual everyday thing. The "exchange views, raise doubts and etc" crap.

Today's group discussion was quite funny. Glenn's answer in excel was so "swee swee." It was too nice and correct. Haha.. I can't stop giggling to this. Alot of it uses barre chords and lot's of lead shredding. I'm just used to normal rock where I'm used to power chords and no leads. Even my rythm guitarist play better than me. haha.... buck up Aidi!!

Last Sunday I went to jam with my friends at Tampines. The place was super nice. Big enough that I can roll all over the carpet. The applifier... foooh... i tell you... it's from marshall and pevey. Great amp for small fry like me? Not justifiable.... haha... The moment I strum that guitar, fooohh... i feel so syiok! it sounded so grunge and metal! (it was also because of the pedal used)

The bad thing though was that I forgot to take back my "jack" cable. Now I can't play at home. Can only use my acoustic guitar. Not to worry though.

School has reopened since yesterday and I have missed two lessons. Bloody hell... argh... I had to register for NS and the f***king system says I can't be deferred! It scared the crap out of me! I don't want to go NS now! I want to study!

I called them. The customer service personnel said that there must something wrong that I typed in. They told me to go to CMNB personally and meet the officer there. I felt reluctant but this was an important thing that needs to be settled quickly. Here goes my "adventure to CMNB"

Being an "eastern Boy", I've never been exploring Singapore much. The CMNB building is located in the western part of Singapore. In exact, Bukit Merah is the place. So I went in search of the place. I took the MRT to Redhill station and took a bus. I took the correct bus but wrong direction! I went to Holland Village instead! and that was my first time going there! It was Holland Village! I've seen the place in TV before but not in real. I felt "jakon" haha... I tell ya, there was a lot to see! The western people (Singaporean westerners), the colour coded MRT stations (Redhill MRT station was in RED) and the buses. The buses were old and noisy!

Eventually I reached the place and enquired about my deferment. This was after being lost for about an hour. The customer service assured me that there was something wrong with the system and she personally changed the documentation. The system said, "DEFERMENT: SUCCESSFUL"

Immediately after that, I felt so relieved! No botak hair for now! We were taught to write hard news and feature news. As the word "hard" suggests, it is hard to write one simple voice over (VO) in just 50 seconds!

A VO is a journalist reading from a script while a video is playing. It is hard to do this. CNA (ChannelNewsAsia) buys feeds from wire services; Reuters and AP(Associated Press) The feed is just send with lots and lots of information and the journalist have to take out which are not important.

After that, we just chatted with Suzanne and asked her more questions. We asked her what are the ethics of journalism and the techniques of asking questions.

We then had pizza sponsored by who else, Suzanne. She bought 3 large pizzas and we ate! We had so much fun interacting with each other as we felt comfortable with each other. Here are some pictures we took... enjoy !!

2nd day: Journalism Workshop

We started an hour later than usual as Suzanne was busy at work. While waiting for her, the students chat with each other. I got to know Will.I.Am, Venga, Ash, Sandra and many more. All of them had a bubbly character and it was fun interacting with them.

We started with learning to use more of active voice than passive voice. Active voice gives the "omph" factor which attract viewers attention. She taught us to reduce the usage of cliché words. For e.g. "smooth as silk, raining cats and dogs, an apple a day and etc" People will be bored listening to these words.

As I have mentioned in my previous post, journalists writes factual account and not a narrative account stories. For e.g. the hour-glass singer is..... instead the word to use is "the slim singer" Keep it direct.

There are differences between the factual contents of visual and print media. For e.g.

visual media

all mothers will get a baby bonus.

print media

30 years old mothers will get $200 baby bonus while a 20 year old mother will get $300**

As you can see, the term "mothers" is broad based as it approached mother's of all ages. There is a limit where visual media can supply information.

We were also taught the difference between straight and feature news. Straight news such as political and business news. Feature news are not important but insightful if highlighted. For e.g. drinking beer during world cup will increase blood pressure**. Since world cup is near, this may keep supporters informed of the consequences of binging.

There are so many things that are not highlighted here. i try my best to recap what I have learn and share with others.

At the end of class, we were taught qualities and factors to be a good journalist. I shall end here now.

** this sentence is created and not for real.

Journalism Workshop

Journalism Workshop

I came to class just in time at 12.30pm. I went in and my eyes was fixed to a particular person. She was distinctive in class. A person that grabbed my attention. Her command of English was superb that kept me awed. Her smile reminded me of a person that I've seen before in television. Let's not keep the suspense to myself.

She is Suzanne Jung, the news anchor of Primetime morning! I can't believe it. I'm seeing her in class for real! I always see her in the morning news and now she's in class to facilitate the workshop? This is awesome!

She introduced herself in the beginning and started talking. I noticed something about news anchors. They don't like to be in a situation where they is dead silence. When nobody seems to reply to her questions, (we were shy) she talks and talks alot. This amazed me. I've never seen a person who can talk so much and still catches my attention.

Firstly, we were introduced with the organisational structure of the industry, starting from general manager down to video editors. Our first group activity was to choose 10 most important stories of the day and put it in order for a newscast. It was great, RP PBL made me a confident speaker. I tried my best to reason out why my group chose a certain news to be put in what order of the list.

Secondly, the class was taught the basics of writing. We were taught to avoid long and mundane sentences. She taught us the "3S" It means Simple, short and sweet. Short sentences will keep the audience attentive to messages sent and that they will not lose focus.

She told us to minimise the usage of adjectives and adverbs. For example, the "beautiful girl." The word "beautiful' is subjective and does not relay a factual account. News report must be factual. A better word would be, the size 2 build girl or the 1.56m girl. This information is factual and will never go wrong.

Lastly, we sat facing her and "bombarded" her with questions about her job. She used to work in Korean English Broadcast Station named "Arirang" She came to CNA about 4 years ago. She told us that having degrees especially in Political Science have an advantage in the industry. Her works starts at 2am in the morning and may end at about 11pm in the evening. That's the 'glamour" of her work. Her work is physically and mentally challenging. We were so engrossed listening to her. I can't wait for tomorrows lesson. I shall end here for now.

My holiday is burned....

Hi turtles out there! it's been a long time since i've blog. All this while I've been waking up super early. You may be wondering, what time do I always wake up? 5.30am to be precise. So this is the perfect opportunity to get some loving from my pillows and sleep!

On monday, is the start of my Journalism Workshop conducted by CNA presenter Suzanne Jung. Cool right!! I know! I can't wait for the workshop. It must be full of shiok-ness that I can't bear myself. We waited and sat behind the RPC centre while waiting for the event to start. Our group was mundane and way too quiet. I'm not used to that. The SAS students from W14B tried to liven up the mood. The student helper with us tried to liven up the mood too but he gave up too easily. Never mind, try harder next time!
We played the cliche game of icebreaker and others. We walked around the school like a bunch of zombies looking for stuffs which were boring. There was nothing exciting about the *hunt* However since i was already there, I might as well use the time for good.
After the games we had dinner at the forum lounge or whatever it was called. We sat around a squre face plastic cover and ate like people who were deprived of food for a very long time. We then had entertainment from the SAS seniors and facilitators.
The thing that pissed me off was when that Eric guy was singing. He was already singing mandarin song and he thinks he's singing was good. George was almost lullabied by his singing. I could see that he almost asleep! I would call Eric's singing, "syiok sendiri"
I liked the part when our flex boy just ran out to the stage only with his yellow undies. I can't stop laughing with my friends. My idol! I'm telling you, this guy is an awesome singer. His singing was way better than that Eric shit.
